Mystery Solved!

For weeks now we have all been trying to figure out what Chelsea wants for Christmas.

"What will you ask Santa for?"  "What presents is Santa going to bring you?"  "What do you want for Christmas?"

We've tried it all.  The preschool teacher used pictures, I've taken her to stores to "show" me what this mystery item is she keeps repeating.

We've been stumped.  Can't figure it out - but it's definitely not your common Christmas gift; doll, baby, train ...

On the way to school yesterday I figured it out.

"Four more days until Santa comes, what is he going to bring you?"

"Candy cane."

Yep, for weeks now, my love has been asking for a candy cane.  She doesn't even like candy canes, she has just learned that's what Santa always has on him when you see him in public.

If only we all could 'want' so little.

Daddy Home

Bless their hearts, Chelsea's teachers have been working diligently on getting her to use two signs together. It's really been a struggle for her and she really doesn't use two signs very often unless we prompt her. This is not a surprise, processing is difficult for her and is part of speech apraxia.

That being said, you can imagine my surprise tonight when my little girl said her first sentence! Well - does two words together equal a sentence? And ... drumroll please, both words were verbalized!!! I was trying to get the kids hustled out of the tub, dried off and in their pj's before Daddy got home from work. Like always, she was getting excited at the prospect of seeing her dad before bed.

Mommy - Daddy's coming home, let's hurry up and get dressed before he gets her.

Chelsea - duh

Mommy - Do you want to go see if he's here yet?

Chelsea - duh ... daaaadeeeee

Mommy - okay, hurry, lay down let's put on your diaper ... Daddy's coming home! DAADEE HOME. Can you say Daddy home?

Chelsea (I swear, plain as day) - Daddy home.

I'm getting teary eyed just talking about it. I couldn't believe it, I was smiling ear to ear, and I picked her up threw her up in the air and starting hooping and hollering about it! She was belly laughing at my reaction, it was hilarious. I kept telling her why I was excited, "you said, Daddy home!" So then, she did it again! Perfectly! For the rest of the night she repeated it over and over. Only twice was it clear as day, but the other times it was pretty darned adorable ... "Daadeeeee mome. Daddeee mome." Over and over again. I love this kid!!!

Maybe we'll stop fretting about her putting two signs together and just keep moving forward on her speech! What an exciting time for her. Not hearing your child say hardly anything for the first three years of their life sure makes beginning to speak so much sweeter!

Come Again

So along with this speech breakthrough, there's much more babbling and baby talk going on. It's pretty humorous. Logan got in trouble last night and went to his room crying (unfortunately that's a typical night). The funny thing is Chelsea followed me in there, pointed her finger at him, and told him off! (In Chelsea-speak of course.) It did get him to stop crying long enough to laugh and ask, "what did she say?"

Language Explosion

Although it's not comprehensible, Chelsea has begun jabbering all the time. She wakes up talking and doesn't stop all day long (except when we go to speech therapy). It's mostly duh, duh, duh, but we're working on making some other sounds. Go Chelsea!!!

Logan got his flu shot yesterday. On the way home he said he was sorry for being mean to me, then he said "now you say you're sorry for getting me that flu shot." How cute is that! Poor baby. He asked me why I got him that flu shot that poked him and hurt him. He recovered quickly though as we followed that appointment with his first visit to the dentist. She counted his teeth and let him sit in the chair and wear a paper bib. He was pretty excited! It was his "happy visit". Next time they'll actually clean his teeth. He sat like such a good boy while they cleaned my teeth, I was so proud.

After the dentist he went to a friends house to play while I went to a meeting. Unfortuneatly his friend wasn't there, just his big sister who babysat Logan. They had a great time together. She later told her mom that Logan was a really good boy (huh?) and that he spoke very clearly (awww...) I love my kids!
