Father's Day at my Dad's house. Logan knows it's a special day, so he pulls out all the tricks.
He asked for a piece of gum.
Sure.
Two minutes later I saw him sneaking another piece.
No way, little man.
Then he dives for a hard candy, um, no, nice try.
As I'm buckling him into the car I noticed his white gum is now green.
Me: You took that second piece of gum, didn't you!!!
(He tries to close his mouth)
Me: Open up, show me how much you have in there.
(It looks as if he's got a piece of gum the size of his fist shoved in there and I'm thinking I don't want to do the Heimlich while driving down the highway.)
Me: How many pieces do you have in there?
(he holds up two fingers)
Me: OPEN UP.
To my dismay I find that second piece of gum ... and the hard candy he wasn't supposed to have. I make him spit out the hard candy but let him keep the gum. (It's a special day ;) As we're driving home I explain why that is so dangerous.
Me: You know my grandma had to call 911 once when Aunt Cassie choked on hard candy. That's why you have to ask before you have candy. What if you choked on that candy and I didn't even know what you had in your mouth? I might think you're just faking it and I wouldn't call 911 until it was too late.
Logan: No mom. You can call 911 anytime.
