Bruised but not Broken

Let me tell you...we've got ONE tough little girl at our house! Chelsea has officially decided two things, one, she's done with crawling, and two, she doesn't like to be held much anymore. So I'll warn you the following pictures may be graphic and no they were not enhanced in any way shape or form. In fact these pictures were taken the night it all happened and her eye looked even worse the next day as it was completely black when she woke up!

It all happened on Tuesday afternoon. The black eye and the bruise on the middle of her forehead came when her big brother tried to sit in the same chair with her. Well, they didn't both fit and let's just say Logan won the seat. She went head first onto the hardwood floors. The other bruise on her forehead off to the side a bit was from when I tried to pick her up with one arm (while carrying groceries in the other). She was insisting on getting back outside on the porch though to watch the thunderstorm, and boinked her head off of the door frame. Finally if you look closely on the second picture, you'll see a bruise on her right cheek. Daddy was trying to adjust her pants and was pulling on her waistband from behind. Well I guess she though he had a hold of her and she just went limp and of course her big old head was the first thing to get to the floor. Her face was turned, so her cheek hit right on one of brothers monster trucks and we had bruise number 3...for the day. These two pictures were taken within hours of all of this, on Tuesday night.

Here's one of her sleeping tonight, Thursday. The eye is a little darker and you can see the bruise on her chin now too! That one is from her fall on the concrete at the park last Friday. She was 2 hours past her nap time and wouldn't let me hold her because she wanted to walk...ALONE! So as she was walking on the sidewalk like a little zombie, she just went head first in the concrete when she fell.

Oh and did I mention how Wednesday went? We added another bruise to the same side of the forehead as the others only closer to her temple. That one was when she was resisting what the PT wanted her to do and once again she flopped her whole body in the other direction and bam! Then while we were visiting friends she dove right into the corner of their coffee table and split her lip open. It took a minute to figure out where all the blood was coming from, but hey, at least this time it wasn't her tongue! I've warned her that she needs to try and keep her injuries below the collar as people might think we're doing this to her. She obliged today as we survived the entire day with only a minor boink on the back of the head and a mysterious red and swollen toe...hmmm...maybe more on that later.

Aye-yi-yi!!! I remember those days!!! Doesn't it seems like when it happens it's as though everything is in slow motion, yet you can't seem to make it there in time to stop it?

The good thing is that she doesn't let fear stop her from trying things after getting a boo-boo from it already.

Maybe one day she will discover the joy of couch-chair-ottoman jumping, like William. He's got a few bruises from that.
