Dear Logan,
We just left your first parent teacher conference of first grade and it sounds like you're doing terrific!!! You're teacher says you're a great reader, hard worker, and a good friend.
She said you can read most any word she's given you, you've clearly broken the code. I guess all that reading before bed is paying off! Literacy is a gift, use it and it will take you far!
Your teacher says she still wants you to work on your handwriting. The more we talked tonight she said she understood you a little better and some of the handwriting issues make more sense now. (It's a teacher thing ;) I told her it's not at the top of my priorities - you can read, you're learning how to write - the handwriting will come. She agreed, messy handwriting won't hold you back in life!
We told her you get stressed out by your homework at night. A math sheet, sight word practice and a story or two from your basal reader are often too much for you to handle after a long day of school. The teacher said she understands and doesn't want you to get frustrated - if you can't get it done, that's okay! She promises she won't be mad! (I told you!)
Keep up the hard work. I'm so happy to hear you have lots of friends at school and are working hard and finishing all your work.
Love you - my toothless munchkin!

Can't tell you how much this warms my heart!!!!!! Grandma Colgrove
Wow! Two great parent teacher conferences. Way to go Logan! Who needs neat handwriting! As I told one of my parents in a conference last night--in 10 years or so there won't be any handwriting needed at all. Everything is going to be done electronically.
Keep up the great work,Logan. Your mommy is right--literacy opens up a whole new world for you. Enjoy!
Janet
